What is THC?

THC is one of the over 110 cannabinoids produced by weed plants, and the one that is found in the highest concentrations in most recreational strains. THC is the plant's main psychoactive compound, responsible for all those fuzzy, euphoric, and creative feelings that make weed the truly remarkable herb it is.

THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, works by binding to receptors in the brain and altering neural activity. It's essentially a chemical key that unlocks different parts of our mind, allowing us to experience heightened senses and altered perceptions. Though recreational cannabis enthusiasts often seek out high THC strains for their intoxicating effects, medical studies have also shown potential therapeutic benefits for conditions such as chronic pain, PTSD, and chemotherapy-induced nausea.

What are high THC autoflower seeds?

High THC autoflowering strains are a group of potent cannabis plants that automatically switch from vegetative growth to the flowering stage without needing a specific light schedule. This might not sound like a huge deal, but this simple difference can a game-changer for both indoor and outdoor growers. Autoflowering cultivars are not normally known as the most potent strains, however our high THC autos can compete against most photoperiods on potency.

Autos also tend to have a shorter lifespan (usually between and 12 weeks) than photoperiod strains. They also tend to be smaller and more compact, making them a great option for those with limited grow space. However, this shorter lifespan also means that autos typically have lower yields compared to photoperiod strains.

How potent are the strongest autoflowers?

Up until about five years ago, autos were mostly seen as the runt of cannabis sativa L. family, with reduced potency levels compared to photoperiod strains. However, thanks to the hard work of breeders worldwide, and advancements in breeding techniques and genetic selection, there are now autoflowering strains that can rival the THC levels of some of the strongest photoperiod strains on the market.

These days, a bunch of the strongest autoflowering cannabis strains hit the holy grail of ganga potency - plus 25% THC!

Kushberry Moonrocks Autoflower, Do Si Dos Autoflower, Bruce Banner Autoflower, and GG4 Autoflower are all on that list. With these kinds of levels, it's safe to say that autoflowering strains can more than hold their own against photoperiod strains in terms of potency.

What can you do to make your autoflowers produce more THC?

  • Enhance Lighting Conditions: Autoflowers thrive when exposed to intense and consistent light. Opt for high-quality LED or HPS lights to promote vigorous growth and maximize THC potency.
  • Optimize Nutrient Intake: Achieving a well-balanced nutrient regimen is of utmost importance. During the flowering stage, increase potassium consumption, as it significantly contributes to bud development and potency. Grab an EC or TDS meter to make sure your plants are getting the right amount.
  • Monitor and Adjust pH Levels: Maintaining the soil or growing medium at the ideal pH level (between 6.0 and 7.0 for soil-based crops or 5.5 to 6.5 for hydro-grown plants) ensures optimal nutrient absorption.
  • Time Harvests Based on Trichomes: The color of trichomes serves as the best indicator of peak THC levels. Harvest when the majority of trichomes have turned cloudy white with around 30% having turned amber, indicating maximum THC concentration— you'll need to grab a USB microscope to get a close look at the trichomes.
  • Control Environmental Factors: Maintaining the ideal temperature (between 65-85°F) and humidity levels (50-60% during vegetative growth and 40-50% RH during flower production) in your grow space can significantly impact the final THC potency. Consider investing in a dehumidifier or humidifier to regulate the humidity levels and prevent mold growth. Additionally, proper air circulation and ventilation can help prevent heat stress and optimize plant growth.
  • Practice Stress Training: With autos, you don't want to go overboard with heavy stress training techniques, but some light bending and pruning can help increase bud production and potency. We recommend using the SCroG (Screen of Green) method, which involves using a net to keep the plant canopy even and expose more bud sites to light.
  • Avoid Over and Under watering: Providing just the right amount of water is key to maximizing THC potency. Overwatering can lead to root rot and reduced nutrient absorption, while under watering can result in stunted growth and lower yields. Monitor your plants closely and water them when the top inch of soil feels dry.

What else to consider when you buy high THC autoflower seeds?

  • Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid Dominance: Like photoperiod strains, autoflowering strains can also have varying levels of Sativa or Indica dominance. Sativa-dominant strains tend to produce more cerebral and uplifting effects, while Indica-dominant strains are known for their relaxing and sedative properties. Hybrids offer a mix of both worlds, with varying effects depending on the specific strain.
  • Flavor and Aroma Profile: Just like your regular photoperiodic strains, autoflowering strains come in a wide range of flavors and aromas. From fruity and sweet to earthy and spicy, consider what kind of taste and scent you prefer in your cannabis to find the perfect high-THC autoflower strains. Do some research on the different terpenes to find a strain with the flavor profile that best suits your preferences.
  • Grow Space Requirements: Autoflowers are typically smaller and more compact (although not always), making them perfect for growers with limited space. Some strains may still require more vertical height due to their ability to stretch during the flowering stage. Using the SCroG grow technique will help control the height and optimize yield.
  • Climate Suitability: In general, autos have a higher tolerance for different weather conditions compared to photoperiod strains. They are more resistant to pests, diseases, and mold due to their shorter growing cycle. However, some strains are better suited for specific climates, so if you are planning to grow outdoors, make sure to check the strain's climate suitability.
  • Yield and Growth Duration: Autoflowers usually have a quicker growth cycle than regular seeds, but there is still variation within different strains. Some may finish in just 8 weeks, while others can take up to 12 weeks or more. Additionally, yields can also vary greatly, so make sure to check the average yield of a strain before making any decisions.
